WAKE UP
“I found it personal, experimental, frightening, tender, brutal, spastic, and above all genuine. While the images and sounds are intentionally and effectively overwhelming and at times nightmarish, the emotions are so clearly felt.”
- Dan Ketchum, DocuWest Programmer
“Wake Up punches you in the sternum then gently holds you up as your knees buckle and you catch your breath.
Grateful I found this film.”
- Tamika Fields, Audience Awards

Wake Up is a short, first person documentary in which filmmaker Erin Babbin explores her role in three generations of women artists. It is an intense and deeply personal film that utilizes archival photographs and films created by her grandmother and mother, and responds to conversations left unspoken. Wake Up delves into the relationships of the women in Erin's family while examining the harsh realities of the cycles of addiction and depression. The film sheds light on the universal subject of the artist and addiction, including the tragedies that too often accompany them, with room for redemption through artistic practice.
